The Answers:

  • The Wadi Degla MTB Challenge is an amateur-level, volunteer-organized off-road cycling race taking place in Wadi Degla on Feb 28 2009.

    The race is organized by
MTB Egypt and is made possible by the collective effort of a team of awesome volunteers.
  • Anyone who with an adequate level of physical fitness and a suitable bike can participate.
  • Things you MUST have to participate:

    - A mountain bike in good working condition.
    - A helmet

    Optional but important:

    - A trail repair kit (a spare tube and tire levers, multi-tool, spare chain or chain links, etc)
    - Hydration pack (or water bottle in your frame bottle holder)
    - Sunglasses
    - Pump
    - Sun protection
  • Again, this is a  volunteer-organized event. The entry fee partially covers t-shirts (every racer gets one), race supplies (water bottles, first aid kits, poster, etc) and prizes, and one entry ticket for Wadi Degla on race day.
  • We're still working on that, but the only prize you should seek is glory :)
Seriously though, we're trying to get some bike shops to sponsor the prizes. If you have ideas, let us know!
  • - You should be ideally familiar with quick on trail repairs, but it is not a requirement.
    - In most situations, you can simply walk back to the entrance.
    - In case of injuries or competitors experiencing sever fatigue, there will be volunteers stationed at key points on the race loop who will provide immediate assistance. Bear in mind that mountain biking is a potentially hazardous activity, and that you participate at your own risk.
  • The race is going to be a lap-based race with an interval start (competitors will start sequentially in one minute intervals, not all at once) . You may choose to compete in one of 5 classes, based on gender, age group or mountain biking experience.
  • Just get in touch with us and we'll talk about how you could help out :)
